Frank Gao is a patent attorney in the Chicago office of Ladas & Parry.

Mr. Gao has a wide range of experience in the preparation and prosecution of U.S., European, Chinese, Japanese and Korean patent applications in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, biochemistry, chemistry, electronics, material science and medical devices for companies, universities and individuals.

Frank has drafted and prosecuted numerous patent applications in matters encompassing electronics, integrated circuits and packaging, digital video, broadband, wireless networks, optical and fiber communication, silicon photonics, Bluetooth, RF, GPS, consumer electronics and other areas of electrical and computer engineering.

In addition to his utility and design patent practice, Frank has broad experience in trademark preparation, prosecution, opposition, cancellation, mediation and litigation. He also works on due diligence for licensing, mergers and acquisitions as well as financial investments and advises clients on issues relating to the marketing of products which includes clinical testing, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices and medical test kits in the United States and abroad.

Frank also prepares patent validity, infringement and freedom-to-use opinions with a particular emphasis in the pharmaceutical field. He has litigated patent infringement and trademark cases where he has been the lead attorney.

Mr. Gao has also helped many online sellers successfully respond to Amazon suspension letters due to trademark, copyright and patent infringement actions so they could continue selling on Amazon.com.

Frank is a frequent speaker at seminars about how to obtain and enforce trademark and patent rights and the enforcement of patents and trademarks in China. Frank is also active in writing about IP matters on his blog: abc-patent.com/blog.

Mr. Gao speaks English, Chinese (native Mandarin), Japanese (read) and Hebrew (limited).
