The Ladas Memorial Award Competition is an annual writing competition hosted by the International Trademark Association (INTA) and supported by Ladas & Parry LLP. This competition was originally established in 1976 by the United States Trademark Association (USTA) for writing in memory of Dr. Stephen P. Ladas and his outstanding contributions to international intellectual property law.
Papers are submitted in two separate author categories — one competition for students and another for professionals. In each category, the award is given to the paper which INTA judges as being the best on the subject of trademark law or a matter that directly relates to or affects trademarks.
Student category winners typically win a cash prize as well as a complimentary registration to the INTA Annual Meeting. The professional category winner generally receives a complimentary copy of Stephen P. Ladas’s three-volume treatise, Patents, Trademarks, and Related Rights. Winning papers are also considered for publication in INTA’S The Trademark Reporter.
