In Honor of Irving Braverman
It is with sadness that we note the death of our retired partner, Irving Braverman, at the age of 98.
A New York native and graduate of Stuyvesant High School (at the age of 16), City College of New York, and Brooklyn Law School, Irving first qualified as a certified public accountant and subsequently as a member of the New York Bar. Prior to starting his professional career, Irving served as a high-speed radio intercept operator in the Office of Strategic Services.
Irving joined the law firm now known as Ladas & Parry LLP in 1954, following his service with the OSS, initially in what would now be known as the role of financial officer. After becoming a partner in 1969, he served as the firm’s managing partner.
As managing partner, Irving was instrumental in transforming the firm (then known as Langner, Parry, Card and Langner) from one whose activities were largely confined to securing intellectual property protection outside the United States for U.S. corporations into a broad-spectrum intellectual property firm. He championed the use of computer technology long before many other firms and expanded the range of ancillary services provided to clients.
Irving had a keen interest in and knowledge of other cultures, a significant advantage in working with the firm’s international clients and associates. Even in retirement, he continued to provide information, advice, and thoughtful insights to the firm up to the final year of his life. He was truly one of a kind.
Irving is survived by his devoted wife, Jill; his children from his late wife, Rhoda—Jeff Braverman (Liz), Steven Braverman (Jennifer), Roberta Braverman Shapiro (Todd), and Andrea Clark (Dan); his beloved bonus children, Evan Braunstein (Ashley) and Liz Braunstein (Mike); and ten cherished grandchildren.
