BRAZIL WILL BECOME THE 105th MEMBER OF THE MADRID SYSTEM OF INTERNATIONAL TRADEMARK REGISTRATION EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 2, 2019

Brazil acceded to the Madrid Protocol on July 2, 2019. It will become the 105th member of the Madrid System, which will cover 121 countries when it enters into force on October 2, 2019. Brazilian entities will be able to protect their trademarks within the system by filing a single application with a single set of fees. Trademark owners outside of Brazil will also be able to pursue trademark protection in Brazil through the centralized application process managed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
