Ralph H. Cathcart and Jennifer Kwon of our New York office were recently mentioned in an article on Jezebel.com entitled: “Who Gets to Own ‘Black Girl Magic’? “

The phrase “Black Girl Magic” is at the center of a trademark dispute and an Opposition proceeding before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, Opposition No. 91/230,959 filed by Essence Magazine against Beverly Bond (the alleged founder of the organization Black Girls Rock!) over who has the right to register the trademarks ESSENCE BLACK GIRL MAGIC and BLACK GIRL MAGIC.
