Raymond A. DiPerna is a partner in the New York office of Ladas & Parry. He is experienced in the preparation and prosecution of utility and design patent applications, both domestically and internationally, primarily in the electrical, computer, and mechanical arts. He is also experienced in the field of telecommunications, having prosecuted many patent applications involving CDMA, FDMA, TDMA, and other channel access methods. He has also prosecuted patent applications directed to Internet-related hardware and software, internet security and authentication methods, systems for mobile phones, automatic generation of screens for mobile apps based on back-end services, and the like.
Other representative technologies include: e-commerce, business methods, financial transaction systems, advertising systems, memory systems, image processing systems, x-ray sensors and dental equipment, facsimile and copier systems, digital cameras, 3D printing systems, hologram recording mediums, vehicle systems including transmission systems, semiconductor devices, firearms, and tub, shower, toilet, faucet and flow systems.
During the course of prosecuting patent applications Mr. DiPerna has prepared several appeal briefs and has on a number of occasions delivered oral arguments before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Mr. DiPerna also has experience in patent litigation. He has prepared opinion letters regarding patent infringement, validity, and enforceability, as well as freedom to operate. He has drafted motions, affidavits, discovery requests, protective orders, and claim charts, and has reviewed file histories. Mr. DiPerna has provided litigation support, including in defending against infringement claims by Non-Practicing Entities, which has involved studying the technical and legal aspects and analyzing the strength of a client’s legal position. Mr. DiPerna has also prepared IP license and transfer agreements.
