Former NBA basketball star Michael Jordan has won back the rights to his last name in China, as written in Chinese characters. On December 8th, a Chinese high court determined that Qiaodan Sports, a sportswear company with around 6,000 stores in China, will have to give up the Chinese version of its Qiaodan trademarks, which correspond to Jordan’s last name as written in Chinese. The court ruled that because Mr. Jordan’s last name is so well known in China he should have the rights to these trademarks. Jordan has been in dispute with Qiaodan Sports since 2012.
