We sadly report the untimely death of Robert Popa, a partner in our Los Angeles Office. Robert passed away last week at home. He is survived by his wife Mimi, their son Marius and his step-daughter Georgie.
Robert was a wonderful colleague and partner and he will be sorely missed. He was intelligent, resourceful and a remarkable patent lawyer. He was well liked and his bright and cheerful personality made the lives of all who knew him that much better. We looked through our pictures of Robert and did not find quiet, sedate pictures of Robert. Rather, Robert was usually clowning, smiling and having a good time with the rest of us. We think that he would be pleased with this picture of him as it truly portrays our memories of him.
Robert was born March 22 1968 in Romania of hard working parents. His family emigrated from Romania first to the Philippines and then to the United States. His first home in the US was in New York City where Robert attended the famed Stuyvesant High School. After high school, Robert attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he received both a B.S. and a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering. Robert was drawn to the West Coast with a job at General Atomics in San Diego before going to work for Parsons in Pasadena in the Los Angeles area where he eventually settled.
While working at Parsons, Robert attended law school at Southwestern University. He received his J.D. in 1996 and worked at Fulwider Patton and Irella & Manella before joining Ladas & Parry in 2003. Robert became a partner in 2007.
Robert enjoyed surfing, motorcycling, gourmet vegetarian cooking, and wood carving.
