With deep sorrow, we note the death last week of our retired partner S. Delvalle (“Del”) Goldsmith at the age of 104. Del passed away just two weeks shy of his 105th birthday.
Del was born in New York City on March 4, 1906, and graduated from Columbia University before joining the firm (then known as Langner, Parry, Card and Langner) in 1926. Del married in 1932, and he and his wife Ann enjoyed a marriage which lasted 75 years. Ann preceeded Del in death in 2007 at the age of 100 years.
In addition to his professional work with the firm and his substantial contributions to what is now the Intellectual property Section of the American Bar Association, Del was for almost sixty years a volunteer fireman. Del began his volunteer firefighting career in 1941, joining the Roslyn Long Island Fire Department. In 1955 he and Ann moved to Patterson, New York and was soon involved with the Patterson (New York) Fire Department, most recently serving as its chaplain.
Although he technically retired from the Ladas & Parry in 1976, Del remained actively at work well into his nineties and continued to serve the Patterson (New York) Fire Department also well into his nineties.
Del will be missed.
