With more than twenty years of experience, focused on trademarks, Maureen has helped countless clients select, protect, build and enforce brands in both the United States and around the world.
Maureen has managed IP portfolios that include some of the most valuable brands in the world and has overseen the development and enforcement of those brands in nearly every jurisdiction in the world. She has helped both large and small businesses select new brands and develop trade identities. She has provided brand owners of all sizes with helpful advice on how to achieve goals economically, and rigorously defended their right to use trademarks and names over unfounded infringement claims. Maureen has also advised regarding intellectual property, including brand valuation, in many significant acquisitions.
Her practice includes counseling on the availability of trademarks for use and registration, filing and prosecuting trademark applications, watching and policing trademarks, enforcing trademarks including through litigation, and leveraging brands including through licensing. She has practiced extensively in the United States Patent and Trademark Office including before its Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and before numerous U.S. Federal Courts. She has filed and prosecuted hundreds of U.S. applications, including for various forms of trade dress and nontraditional marks, and has overseen the filing, prosecution and maintenance of tens of thousands of applications around the globe. Maureen’s extensive international experience provides her with a unique ability to help U.S. companies export brands and companies of other nationalities import their brands.
Maureen has served as global trademark counsel for two Fortune 100 Companies. She has counseled business professionals of all levels (including at the C-level), providing practical, goal-oriented advice and is an invaluable asset to in-house counsels and in-house legal professionals.
